Are you a scientist or theologian interested in scholarship that draws upon both the tools of the sciences and theology to generate new insights?
Are you a science or high tech professional, or one in training, who believes Christ-followers have a unique and meaningful contribution to make toward human thriving? Are you a pastor or ministry leader wanting to disciple the science professionals in your church?
Are you an academic developing a collaborative or complex new project in the human behavioral sciences or theology?
What if theology and the sciences were integrated to inspire progress on the big questions facing the world?
Anxiety and purposelessness; artificial intelligence; environmental destruction; gain-of-function; gene-editing; intergroup conflict; human enhancement; labor-automation; media manipulation…
As we look at the many challenges that face the world today, so many are science-related: either they have arisen because of science-based technologies, or the most promising solutions will come from the sciences. But these problems are not only or merely scientific. The sciences give us powerful tools for good or ill, but when and how should we use these tools? Only drawing upon our deepest values, morals, and faith-commitments can we answer these questions. For those of us who are Christians, biblical wisdom should be leading our use of the sciences. And yet, in our current world, our technological, political, and even faith leaders often try to separate faith from the sciences. Our world is imperiled by such thinking. Blueprint 1543 wants to change this situation.
We are working toward a future in which:
– Churches encourage and support young people to pursue science-related fields as a divine calling on their lives;
– It is perfectly normal for sincere, informed Christ-followers to be leaders in scientific fields;
– People of faith understand how their theology motivates and informs scientific inquiry and its application;
– Big practical and scholarly problems facing humanity are approached with theological and scientific rigor, appropriately integrated.
Our future will have new problems, but the steps we are taking now will make science-informed Christians a big part of the solutions.
While Blueprint 1543 is deeply committed to facilitating a thoughtful integration of faith and science for Christians, we extend our vision to all individuals engaged in scientific pursuits. Acknowledging that science and technology are inherently shaped by values, which requires reflection and consideration, we seek to foster a collaborative and cooperative approach to address our shared challenges in a diverse global landscape.
